Top Five Fabulous! September 19, 2019

  1. We have started our science unit on magnets.  We used a magnet and we went around our class to test what would attract, and what would not attract.  Some things even repelled!  We found out that if the force of the magnet was strong, we could even attract through a table!  
  2. In math, we have continued to learn about patterns.  We worked with a group and we made patterns using a variety of objects (dice, attribute blocks, unifix cubes, money, tens rods and ones units, and chips).  We had to record the pattern in our math journal and we circled the core.
  3. In writing, we read the book, “What Do You Do With a Problem?” We then discussed different problems that the children may have had at recess and then came up with solutions. We will continue to work on this all year!
  4. In PE, we have been playing cooperative games.  We are working on moving our bodies in various ways and playing with friends in a safe way.  
  5. We read a book called, “I am Yoga”.  We learned about different poses and we learned about why we do yoga in the afternoons.  We know that yoga helps us with getting back into the green zone to be ready for our afternoon of learning.

Top Five Fabulous       Feb. 28 1. In PE we had a guest teacher.  He taught gym because he reached 100 on his reading treasure map.  He decided what games our class would be playing.  Also he explained what expectations he was looking in order to choose which classmates would be helpers. 2. In math, we used a mystery box to guess which 3D object was inside.  We brainstormed a few questions to ask to help us identify which 3D object might be in the box.  The questions were: How many faces does the object have? How many edges does the object have? How many vertices does the object have?  What shapes are faces?  What could the object be used for? 3.  On Wednesday we had a sharing assembly.  In our assembly, a few of the grade 5/6 students shared “Would You Rather…” writing.  They were funny.  The grade 4’s and kindergarden class sang a kindness song and asked the whole school to participate in...

Top Five Fabulous!     November 8, 2019 In social studies, we finished all of our trading cards for the East Coast of Canada.     We worked on the trading card for how people met their basic needs, in the past.     It is different to how we meet our basic needs today.     We also worked on a trading card for the traditional foods, and deportation.     Mrs. Jenkins brought in some of her treasures to share with the classes.     They were cool artifacts.     Ask me about some of the artifacts. In math, we have been working on number lines! We made a human number line.     We were given random numbers between 0-40 and we had to find the right place in our line.   Some of the numbers were missing and we still had to figure out where our number would fit.     After making a human number line we made our own number line using paper.     This was a challenge to figure out the spacing ...
